BILL KUNTZ - judging PDF Print E-mail

BILL KUNTZ is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Bill received his JD from Harvard Law School in 1977 and also earned an MA and a PhD in history from Harvard in 1974 and 1979, respectively. He joined the court by appointment of President Barack Obama in October 2011. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he was a partner at the law firm Baker Hostetler, having practiced law on Wall Street for thirty-three years.

Bill is married to Alice Beal, MD, originally of Cambridge, Massachusetts. They moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1978 and have lived there ever since. Alice is director of palliative care for the Veterans Administration New York Harbor Hospital System. They have three children, Will, Kate, and Lizzie. Will just graduated from Fordham Law School and works as the director of professional scouting in baseball operations for the New York Yankees. Kate is in her fourth year of Tufts Medical School. Lizzie, who graduated from Harvard College in 2011, is working in Boston as a librarian and studying physical therapy.

When you go to court, you always wonder, How will the judge see these facts? From whose perspective? Today each of us gets to be that judge as we evaluate three separate but interrelated lawsuits arising from one commonly observed set of uncontested facts.
